The Old South Barracks of Norwich University, where Theta Chi was founded on April 10, 1856.
Founded in 1856 at Norwich University—the oldest private military college in the United States—our fraternity was forged in an environment of discipline, leadership, and sacrifice. While we are a social organization, we carry the "Military Fraternity" moniker as a reminder that our brotherhood was built to withstand the ultimate tests of character.
This heritage isn't just a historical footnote; it is the blueprint for the Resolute Man. We believe that the collegiate experience should be more than a social retreat—it should be a training ground where young men learn to lead with honor and serve a cause greater than themselves.
In alignment with our founding principles, Theta Chi’s National Philanthropy is the United Service Organizations (USO). Since 1941, the USO has been the nation’s leading organization to support service members and their families.
At the Zeta Upsilon Chapter, we take our commitment to the "Helping Hand" seriously. Our brothers engage in year-round fundraising and service projects to support the USO’s mission of keeping our service members connected to family, home, and country. Whether through campus-wide events or direct volunteerism, we strive to provide the same unwavering support to our military that they provide to our nation.
Beyond our work with the USO, the Theta Chi experience is defined by The Sacred Purpose. This movement is our commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of every brother. We believe that a "True Friend" doesn’t just stand by his brothers during the good times, but actively looks out for their mental and physical health.
In an era of disposable culture, Zeta Upsilon offers something permanent: a community where accountability is a virtue and the bonds of brotherhood are built on mutual assistance. We don't just wear the letters; we live the motto: Alma Mater First and Theta Chi for Alma Mater.
